Our pop-up newsroom came alive today! The Los Angeles-based Engine 28 team welcomed about 40 reporters and editors to the offices of the L.A. Stage Alliance, who are graciously sharing their space with us for the next week. We’re working out of a former firehouse in downtown Los Angeles, mere blocks away from some of the best live performance venues on the West Coast.
The Engine28 reporters came to L.A. from all over the country thanks to an NEA-sponsored fellowship program overseen by USC journalism professor and writer Sasha Anawalt. ArtsJournal founder and Engine 28 Editor Doug McLennan gave the team a training session on many of the web-based tools we’ll be using this week, and previewed an intensive and inventive slate of journalism experiments we’ll be trying as part of our pop-up adventure. We hope to learn a lot as we go, and we’ll share lessons and insights into the process here every day.
