Christmas In Bakersfield, playing at Comedy Sportz as part of the Hollywood Fringe Festival, will disappoint if you’re looking for the big gift but it’s a perfect stocking stuffer. Les Kurkendaal’s one-man show details the true story of meeting his boyfriend’s conservative white parents who know their son is gay but don’t know his boyfriend is African American. Kurkendaal flubs a few lines but gets lots of laughs and knowing nods, especially when acting out the family’s unbelievably clueless questions and comments about tap dancing, watermelon and barbecue.

There's so much heat being generated in the Engine28 newsroom, it can't be contained in actual, ya' know, real stories. So the e28 blog is here to take up some of the overflow. You'll see our selection of what's worth reading in other publications and blogs, short hits on things that caught our attention, and some spin and polish on stories we've grown to care about. Or not... You be the judge.
